Hatchback, sedan, SUV or tempo: choosing the right cab

Picking the wrong size car is the most common booking mistake. Here is how many people and bags each vehicle class actually takes on a long drive.

Range of taxi vehicles from hatchback to tempo traveller

Seat counts on paper and comfort on a six-hour drive are two different things. This is what each class in our fleet realistically carries.

Hatchback — WagonR, Celerio

Four passengers, one large bag. Best for short city runs and airport drops for one or two people. On a highway trip with four adults and luggage it will feel tight; step up to a sedan.

Sedan — Dzire, Etios, Aura

Four passengers, two large bags. The default choice for intercity drops. Three adults in the back is legal but only comfortable for shorter runs. Two adults plus luggage is where a sedan is at its best.

SUV — Ertiga, Innova, Xylo

Six to seven passengers, four large bags. If you have more than four people, or four people with a lot of luggage, this is the honest answer. Higher seating also makes hill and rural roads much easier.

Tempo traveller

Twelve to seventeen passengers. Family functions, group pilgrimages and corporate outings. Everyone travels together with the luggage, which is almost always cheaper and simpler than two smaller cars.

A simple rule

Count your passengers, then count your bags. If bags outnumber passengers, move up one class. On multi-day trips, move up one class regardless — you will be living in that car.

What is the same in every vehicle

Air conditioning, a live GPS, daily cleaning and a police-verified driver. The class you pick changes the space, not the standard.

Not sure? Tell us your group size, luggage and route, and we will recommend a vehicle before quoting.
